December 4, 2012

Despite craziness with practicing for the concert today, we still managed to explore a ton more chemical changes, and the signs that are present to tell us a chemical change has happened!  (irreversible, new substance formed, unexpected change in color, gas formed/released, unexpected temperature change).  Check out the Bill Nye video again to see and try some of the reactions!  One particularly interesting reaction we discussed was food digesting in our bodies.  Which signs of a chemical change do you observe there?

Homework:
1) Math (5-8): p. 119 all, p. 120 all.  Redo low scoring quizzes!
2) Read 20 minutes and get it signed–remember that every day read must be signed!!
3) Spelling due Wednesday
4) Bring class store donations if you can!

Items of Business

*Gerbils: The first students who bring in permission slips to adopt the gerbils will be allowed to keep them after they are weaned (sometime after Christmas).  Depending on the genders, we might be giving them away in pairs since gerbils are such social creatures.  I will keep everyone posted on what we decide!
*Class Store: If you have any extra soda, candy, trinkets, jewelry, or toys that you would like to donate to class store, please send it with your child!  We would like to do one more often to serve as a motivator for positive behavior!

*Dec. 4-5: Christmas Concerts at 6 pm each night at the Jr. High.  Students with last names starting with A-L will perform on the 4th and M-Z on the 5th.
